Personalized Learning: Math Menus, Choice Boards, and Digital Playlists

I wonder what you are all thinking about the likelihood that you could make menus and choice boards part of your classroom differentiation?

I used menus often when I was in the classroom. Seeing students choose tasks and activities that were meaningful to their learning journey was probably one of the most gratifying things to experience as a teacher. Students were more invested in their learning and were able to practice the skill of meaningful choice.

@Rusty Bresser, thanks for sharing! We should definitely consider our students' needs and contexts when building choice boards to empower them and ensure they have access. Lots of flexibility with choice boards for whatever our current COVID environment looks like.

Student choice and rich, engaging mathematics are always important but are especially important in the COVID hybrid environments. Let's keep empowering students to pursue mathematical ideas!

Choice boards, menus, and playlists are a powerful way to engage students and put them in the driver's seat of their own learning path! Starting off slowly with a few choices (3-5) grounded in shared classroom experiences is a great way to expose students to choices without overwhelming them or yourself as a teacher.
