Lecturer at SDSU

Dave has been a Math and Physics teacher in both Canada and the United States for more than 30 years. He has been presenting at national and international conferences since 2003 and has also been teaching pre-service math teachers at San Diego State University for the past 6 years.

Despite earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Electrical) from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, Dave always knew he wanted to teach. He continued his education at McGill with a Master’s degree in Education and embarked on his teaching career.  He taught mathematics, science and physics in both French and English in schools across Canada, including in the school he attended as a teenager.  After earning his PhD in Education from McGill he moved to San Diego to pursue his mission of providing equitable educational experiences to every child.  He currently teaches at The Preuss School UC San Diego, a 6-12 charter school for low-income, first-generation college-bound students.  After arriving in 2006, Dave is currently the Chair of the Mathematics Department and led them through the adoption of the Common Core State Standards while also implementing the Integrated pathway for mathematics.  He has extensive experience with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) as a math educator and workshop leader and in designing the mathematics program that is used worldwide.
